This Nikon 17-55mm f3.5-5.6 G ED AF-S Nikkor DX is a very versatile, autofocus zoom lens designed for Nikon DX cameras (digital SLR cameras with the APS-C format sensor). On "crop frame" cameras, this lens offers a range of focal lengths from a wide angle 26mm equivalent out to a telephoto 80mm equivalent. This makes this lens a great lens for travel as it can be a "jack of all trades" lens, able to handle most photographic situations. Additionally, this lens incorporates low dispersion elements in its optical formula (ED optics) for increased lens performance and fewer aberrations. You could say this lens can do it all, and do it well at that.
This lens has a 72mm filter thread.
This lens is part of Nikon's "G" series lenses, meaning it lacks a mechanical aperture ring. While it still uses a version of the Nikon F lens mount and will mount on older manual focus cameras, there will be no means of adjusting aperture on such cameras. This lens is best suited for later autofocus Nikon SLR cameras that allow aperture to be controlled via camera body.
